Katawa Shoujo: Rin Tezuka by EduardoGaray Katawa Shoujo: Rin Tezuka by EduardoGaray
What to say about Katawa Shoujo, a game/visual novel about dating disabled girls? i raised an eyebrown at first, but started playing it because some people said it was awesome.

So i started playing, got into Rin Tezuka route (an artist girl without arms, how awesome is that?)  and, oh boy, that was an experience.
A touching, sad,  yet beautiful tale about restoration and hope and to find oneself and to find peace. (Thats my interpretation at least!)

It was heart wrenching but just the ending (the good ending) made all the tears and sadness worthy.
I dont remember being so emotionally attached to a videogame since Xenogears or Metal gear solid 3.

An amazing piece of art that really captures the essence of her route.

KS has destroyed many a man, myself included.

Aw, but why would you draw her crying? I really felt a connection with her character pretty early on. She talks about how she feels like she's always drowning, I just imagine that she wants to be accepted and to be able to communicate, but just don't know how, and it's like she feels like she's drowning even though she wants to swim to the surface and just don't know how. This self-realization of her situation made her path really heart-wrenching for me, and just the scene of her sleeping on the desk and tears start coming out really got to me. It's like even though she might not consciously know (or maybe she does) why she's crying, subconsciously she knows she should be crying...

I really wish they would make a full-length animated movie about her route, maybe since we are in a community of artists, if we can find some fans who are also animators, and we can get some of the original writers from KS and musicians onboard, this could easily raise enough money on kickstarter to be made... To pay the artists, writers, musicians, voice actors, and to rent space so the animators could work full time... I think that would be awesome. Although I would definitely change a few things, like for one, Hisao tells Rin he loves her too at the end, dammit... >:-0

haha i wanted to represent that moment when she finally let it out all the despair and asks whats wrong with her.
I still plan to do a new one with her smiling like in the end of the good ending.
And Hisao was a jerk till the very end uh? xD

My heart really sank whenever she seems to recognize that there's something "wrong" with her. It's better when someone is kind of crazy but doesn't realize it, but she knows and wants to be "better" and knowing that she felt that way really broke my heart. And Hisao pissed me off a lot through this route. I totally would have handled those situations differently... But I've always been really good at listening and being empathetic so I can see things from their point of view before I get mad at someone for doing or saying something that might not meet my standards for what should have been said or done. I guess I could be empathetic toward Hisao too since he had his own problems to worry about, but still, he did piss me off... lol

And I am REALLY looking forward to seeing any of your future work, especially if you are going to do a happy Rin. :-)

Cool, while KS is just a dating sim, it's actually much more than that to me. The characters are so well written, everyone has some special moments. And even though Rin is definitely my favorite path, I can't say any bad things about any of the rest. Shizune might seem kind of manipulative and mean, but she does realize it at the end and promises to change for the better. And even in the beginning, the scene of her showing Hisao the night sky and the fireworks was such a beautiful scene given how serious she normally is. Seeing her open her arms out with a big smile on her face, priceless... Misha, I love Misha, she might be loud and annoying, but she's definitely very kind-hearted and wants to cheer everyone up. And when she finds out there are problems between Rin and Hisao, she turns serious to make sure he goes to talk to her about it, shows she isn't completely oblivious and cares that things get sorted out with her friends. But through all of this bubbliness and happy persona, when she reveals that she wishes she just didn't exist, it shows that she's hiding some deep depression behind those smiles and laughs, and my heart really sank at that moment... Even after Shizune's good ending, it doesn't look like her and Hisao has anything long-term. So in my mind I like to think that since she has a new found respect for Misha and how she now realizes she's been taking her for granted, that maybe she might actually get with her in the future. Which solves both of their problems, and it makes me happy thinking that could be a possibility. Lilly is just a very sweet girl that cares for others. She's basically been taking care of Hanako, which makes me really like her character. Hanako obviously has a very tragic back story, and the torment and bullying she endured afterward made it worse for her. So the little moments in the story like when she looks genuinely happy with her birthday gifts really made me smile. Seeing her hug her gifts with a big smile, and her hugging Lilly, sooo sweet... So it was nice to see her end where she shares a kiss with Hisao in the open without a care of what others think for once. And even Emi, she acts so lively and cheery like Misha, so when that scene came where she started crying in her sleep and screamed out "Daddy!" Again, my heart just fell to the floor. I don't know, I'm kind of weird, I'm a guy, but I really care for these sweet moments in stories. But mainly, when an otherwise "strong" woman, breaks down, that REALLY gets to me. Hanako was never really portrayed as a "strong" woman, she just seemed fragile from the beginning. I think that's why she didn't really affect me as much as it did some others. It was already expected. But when Misha breaks, or Emi breaks, or Rin breaks, that just kills me, because for the rest of the story, they seem so strong and positive (well, not Rin, she just seems stoic) so it's hard to see someone you expect to be laughing and smiling to all of a sudden be a complete mess.

I mean, the writers for this story did a phenomenal job. Somehow I really cared for every character. Well, except maybe Kenji, he was just annoying... And the art teacher made my blood boil when he yelled at poor Rin... But the nurse, science teacher, and librarian, are all great characters too. And yes, Hisao pissed me off in a lot of the paths, but he REALLY pissed me off several times in Rin's path. Ugh... lol

I think the restoration part is especially true, since - in order to get Rin's route, you are pretty much within one bad choice of getting the PICNIC ending.
